Course Description: While the clinical evidence for minimally invasive dentistry continues to grow, many practitioners wonder whether this approach is financially sustainable. This presentation demonstrates that minimally invasive dentistry is not only clinically superior but also economically viable and scalable. Drawing from Montshire Pediatric Dentistry's seven-year journey, from 11 patients in 2018 to nearly 30,000 active patients across 10 locations in four states, Dr. Norris will share real-world implementation strategies, financial sustainability models, and measurable outcomes. Montshire serves a predominantly Medicaid population (60%) while maintaining profitability through evidence-based minimally invasive approaches, achieving a 90% reduction in sedation dentistry cases and converting treatment plans that often cost thousands of dollars into medical management approaches at a fraction of the cost.
Participants will learn how minimally invasive care creates a sustainable business model by improving patient retention, reducing no-show rates, increasing treatment acceptance, and allowing providers to serve more patients without sacrificing quality of care.
The presentation will also examine how minimally invasive care simultaneously addresses three critical healthcare challenges: the access crisis (more children served with fewer providers), the cost crisis (dramatically lower cost per patient while remaining sustainable for payers), and the outcomes crisis (actually addressing disease, not just symptoms). Participants will learn practical strategies for implementing minimally invasive approaches in their own practices, including team-based care models, reimbursement optimization, and scaling strategies that work in diverse communities. The presentation provides actionable insights relevant to dentists, hygienists, practice administrators, and policy advocates seeking to transform dental care delivery.

Learning Objectives:

  • Educate on the benefits of minimally invasive practices in dentistry.
  • Discuss how MID fits into the future landscape of dentistry and healthcare transformation.
  • Describe the financial benefits and improved patient outcomes when prioritizing minimally invasive dentistry.
