Since May 2022, Dr. Adam Barefoot, DMD, MPH, has served as the Chief Dental Officer for the Health Resources and Services Administration, sitting in the Office of Special Health Initiatives. In this role, Dr. Barefoot provides leadership and coordination on oral health policy and initiatives, facilitates HRSA's engagement on oral health related work groups, committees and task forces and serves as the agency's liaison to international, national, state and local government agencies, universities and stakeholder organizations.
Dr. Barefoot is a dual Georgia and Florida licensed dentist and was most recently the State Dental Director for the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). Prior to his role at Georgia DPH, Dr. Barefoot was a Dental Director for a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in rural Georgia. 
He has also served as the Public Member for the Preventive Medicine Review Committee for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), Secretary of the Board of the American Network of Oral Health Coalitions (ANOHC), President Elect for the Board of Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD), and President of the Georgia Oral Health Coalition (GOHC).
