Oral Health Champion Awards

Oral Health Champion Awardees are selected by the Board, upon recommendation of the Conference Committee, based on significant state-level work on oral health policy and contributing to improving Missouri's oral health or contributing to making oral health and oral health policy a priority for policy-makers and the Missouri public.

Dr. Molly Foster is the CDO at Katy Trail Community Health in Sedalia, MO. She is happy to be practicing in Sedalia, MO, her hometown. Dr. Foster attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City where she received her BS in Biology and BA in Chemistry in 2015. She then attended the Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health where she graduated with her DMD and MPH in 2019. Her areas of focus at Katy Trail Community Health include increasing water fluoridation and improving access to care through teledentistry. She is a member of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, Missouri Dental Association, participating in the New Dentist Committee, as well as a member of the American Dental Association. She is currently completing NNOHA’s Oral Health Leadership Institute and the AIDPH Dental Public Health Leadership Academy.

In her free time, she is with her family including husband, Keaton, and her son Bennett who was welcomed in September 2021, and his furry siblings. She lives on the farm her grandpa was raised and is learning how to farm slowly with a small garden and chickens. When she is not busy with her family she enjoys baking, reading, and watching the newest binge worthy show.

Dr. Lisa Bosch is an advocate for Rural Dentistry and Community Water Fluoridation in Missouri. Helping lead the way for the Clarence Cannon Wholesale Water Commission (CCWWC) Community Water Fluoridation (CWF) Project by serving on the Clarence Cannon Water Fluoridation Workgroup, Dr. Bosch provides insight to questions on the impact of fluoridation for the health of the rural communities. From 2015 to 2019, Dr. Bosch simultaneously received her Doctorate of Medical Dentistry and her Masters in Public Health from the A.T. Still University – Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health. Currently, Dr. Bosch serves as the Secretary on the University of Missouri Extension Council, is the President of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club, supervises Clinical Experiences with MOSDOH students seeing drug court and low income patients and was the New Dentist Board Member and now the Northeast Missouri Trustee at the Missouri Dental Association. In addition to her volunteer efforts, Dr. Bosch owns a private practice in Edina, Missouri where she provides restorative, pediatric, endodontic, oral surgery, and prosthodontic care to her patients.

Jessica Burdick is a Registered Dental Hygienist at Katy Trail Community Health in Warsaw, MO. She initially began practicing at Jordan Valley Community Health Center but relocated to the Warsaw area in 2012 due to her husband’s employment with the Missouri Department of Conservation. Her passion has always been practicing in public health and working with special needs patients. Jessica graduated from Ozarks Technical Community College in 2003 with her Associates in Dental Assisting. While practicing as a dental assistant at Jordan Valley, she again attended Ozarks Technical Community College where she graduated as a registered Dental Hygienist in 2007.  Additionally, she has also obtained additional education, training, and certifications in delivering dental care to patients with special needs.  Her areas of focus at Katy Trail Community Health include increasing water fluoridation, implementing teledentistry at their satellite location in Warsaw, community outreach at local schools and WIC offices and continued care for children in her community. She is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association.

In her free time, her and her husband Drew are busy with their two boys, Ayden 14, and Hudson 11, who are involved in football, baseball, basketball, and band. When she is not attending sporting events with her children, she enjoys traveling, gardening, kayaking, and weekends on the lake.

Dr. Guy Deyton, joined the Office of Dental Health on March 1, 2021.  His responsibilities are to develop and oversee core public health activities aimed at improving oral health in Missouri.  Dr. Deyton has over 36 years of working in the dental industry, most recently working in general and comprehensive dentistry in Kansas City North. He graduated from UMKC School of Dentistry and completed post graduate training at Dwight D Eisenhower Veterans Administration Hospital which included dental sedation, dental implants, and reconstructive prosthodontics. Dr. Deyton recently served as regional coordinator for the COVID-19 Vaccination Program for dental healthcare workers in the Greater Kansas City area. He has three times been recognized as “Missouri Dentist of the Year.”

Dr. Deyton used to be young; now his hair has turned loose or turned gray. He worked his way through college and dental school as a carpenter and learned a thing or two practicing dentistry for 36 years, being MDA president, and serving on the state dental board.  He has a wonderful daughter and is grateful for a very tolerant wife who has put up with him for over 50 years! 

Dr. John Dane retired from the position of Missouri State Dental Director in 2021.  He continues to remain active in oral health policy and work to improve public oral health.  He previously was Dental Director for Truman Medical Center Lakewood, Kansas City, MO, for the Independence, MO, school-based dental program, and for the Missouri Elks Mobile Dental Program.   He was an associate professor for the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry from 1977 to 2002. 

For almost 10 years, Dr. Dane was the chief dental consultant for Swope Ridge Geriatric Center in Kansas City, and he has been a staff member at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee’s Summit, MO.  He has taught continuing education courses and has co-authored works on community health and specialty care programs for both the American Dental Association and the Missouri Dental Association (MDA). 

In 2014 Dr. Dane received MDA’s Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his long history of exemplary service and dedication to the dental profession and to organized dentistry. In addition to the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, and the Greater Kansas City Dental Association, Dr. Dane is a member of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry for the Persons with Disabilities.  He is a graduate of the UMKC School of Dentistry.

Dr. Mack Taylor graduated from Mizzou in 2009 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree in Advertising, after which he finished his prerequisites for dental school.  He was accepted into the Class of 2014 and after graduation took a position with SEMO Health Network, a small FQHC.  In 2019 he assumed the Chief Dental Officer role.  He is an active member of the MDA, serving on the New Dentist Committee in various functions, the board of directors for the MDA Wellbeing Foundation, as the Southeast Dental Society Past President and Trustee, and most recently, was elected Treasurer of the MDA.  He also sits on the board of directors for MCOH.  In April of 2022 he was chosen to receive the UMKC School of Dentistry’s Young Alumnus of the Year award and was also accepted into the International College of Dentists later that year.  Dr. Taylor is passionate about oral health and underserved communities, volunteering with the Smiles of Hope dental ministry is his hometown of Dexter, participating in numerous MOMOM events, and sitting on multiple workgroups dedicated to specific oral health goals.  Outside of dentistry, Dr. Taylor enjoys traveling and hiking with his wife Jen and their dog Gryffin, mountain biking, working on his Jeep (while wearing a mouthguard!), and smoking the occasional cigar.
