Course Description: Teledentisry has risen to the forefront of the response to the pandemic. This panel will include both a national perspective from the Dentaquest Partnership and what can be learned from the response of dentists and patients around the country. In addition, we will learn how multiple dentists in Missouri have used teledentistry in response to the pandemic including private practice dentists and public health.

Caroline McLeod, RDH, MS is the Value-Based Solutions Manager for the DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement. She guides learning on new value-based payment models and designs approaches to help practices solidify operations, reporting, and readiness to succeed in alternative payment models that move from fee-for-service to value-based payment approaches.
Caroline's dental hygiene experience ranges from traditional practice to school-based and mobile programs and clinical teaching. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) and serves as a delegate for her local Greater-Raleigh Dental Hygiene Component of the North Carolina Dental Hygienists Association (NCDHA).
Caroline is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Dental Hygiene and a Master of Dental Hygiene Education. During her master’s program she completed research on the inclusion of teledentistry in dental and dental hygiene curriculum and was a member of the UNC Teledentistry Committee. Previously, she worked as a teledentistry specialist and educational trainer for MouthWatch. McLeod was also recently recognized as a 2019 Ann and G. Randolph Babcock Fellow and Hinman Dental Scholar in 2018.

Dr. Geoff Peterson was born and raised in Montana. He grew up in a small mining town called Butte. He received his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Theology from the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS. He met his wife during a basketball practice during their time at USM. They now live in Blue Springs, MO with two children who keep them busy. Geoff has been practicing with the Live Well community health centers for since 2014. He has a particular interest in prison dentistry, connecting to his time in prison ministry while going to school in Leavenworth, KS.
Geoff graduated from dental school at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, OR. Geoff was the OHSU volunteer of the year, American Association of Public Health Dentistry Community dentistry and public health award recipient, and the International College of dentists leadership award recipient during his time at OHSU. He currently serves as the Dental Director for the Live well Community health Centers.

Dr. Emily Oehler was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from UMKC. Dr. Oehler then went on to receive her DDS in 2019 from UMKC-School of Dentistry. After living in Kansas City for 8 years she moved back closer to home and now lives in the O’Fallon, MO area. Shortly after moving back, Dr. Emily Oehler began and is still working in public health at the dental clinic at Lincoln County Health Department in Troy, MO.

Dr. Madeline Sloan is a graduate of UMKC School of Dentistry. She found her interest and passion in dentistry through medical mission trips in Belize, Central America. She lives in Overland Park, KS with her husband Taylor, 1 year old son Milo, and dog Millie.

Dr. Nathan Suter was the Oral Health Director and a practicing dentist at COMTREA Comprehensive Health Center, a federally-qualified health center (FQHC), in Festus, from 2013 to 2018. He was instrumental in starting the dental program at a fast-growing network of FQHC dental clinics in Jefferson County, MO. He is now the Oral Health Program Specialist at COMTREA overseeing the teledentistry program, grant writing, strategic planning and business analytics. In 2017, Dr. Suter purchased a rural private practice in House Springs, Missouri. He splits his time between COMTREA and his private practice, Green Leaf Dental Care. In January 2019, Dr. Suter started Access Teledent a consulting company to help health centers and dentists start using teledentistry.
A graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree, Dr. Suter also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Webster University in St. Louis. In November of 2016, Dr. Suter received both the National Network for Oral Health Access Outstanding Clinician award and the American Dental Association Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award. Dr. Suter joined the Missouri Coalition for Oral Health in 2014 and is currently serving as the Vice Chair on its board of directors.

Dr. Nicholas Hein, DDS is a general dentist currently engaged as the owner of a private practice in Springfield, MO. Dr. Hein concurrently works as a dental consultant for Cotiviti Inc. Dr. Hein received his dental degree and undergraduate studies from the University of Colorado. He previously practiced in private practice in Colorado and has worked in public health, corporate owned practice, and private dental practices in Missouri. He has a strong interest in utilizing new tools to find innovative ways to deliver health care and the value proposition in dentistry.
